MTS' Marine Technology for Offshore Wind Power Workshop
Wind energy is one of the fastestgrowing forms of electricity generation in the world. More than 20 offshore environmentally friendly wind farms are producing clean renewable power in Europe. But despite a U.S. Department of Energy estimate that more than 900,000 MW of offshore wind power generation exist within 50 miles of the United States' coasts, none is currently being produced in the U.S. Wind power has the potential to become a significant and strategic part of the American coastal states' renewable energy solutions for climate change and energy security. In recognition of this potential, more than 30 offshore wind projects have
44 MTR
been proposed in North America. To successfully implement those projects, the Marine Technology Society's expertise in a large variety of marine technologies will be essential. Join more than 200 wind energy professionals, marine technologists and policy makers at the 2009 Marine Technology for Offshore Wind Power Workshop to explore the technical challenges and economic issues of the offshore wind industry. Be immersed in the most current information and opportunities through this innovative two-day workshop that will: · Feature global industry leaders who will connect theory with practice and current economic conditions · Examine real-world installations from Europe · Address U.S.-specific industry issues · Provide unparalleled education of technology applications for siting, design, installation and maintenance · Offer valuable networking opportunities for lasting connections
