Ocean Services Wins DART Contract
Ocean Services, a member of the Stabbert Maritime Group of Companies has been awarded a contract by NOAA for the repair and maintenance of buoys in the Deepocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis program (DART). Upon contract award Stabbert Maritime had 30 days to upgrade one of its vessels, the 205 ft Ocean Pioneer, with Dynamic Positioning (DP) capabilities. Also included in the refit was a new interior package and galley to modernize the vessel for her 22,000 mile worldwide voyage. With the completion of the refit the Ocean Pioneer is mobilizing with client equipment and set to sale immediately. DART presently constitutes a critical element of the NOAA Tsunami Program. The Tsunami Program is part of a cooperative effort to save lives and protect property through hazard assessment, warning guidance, mitigation, research capabilities, and international coordination.

Sonsub engineering manager Kim Lyngberg was awarded best technical presentation at this year's MCE Deepwater Development conference, held at Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lyngberg participated in Technical Session II: Global Project Achievements, presenting a paper jointly written with Francesco Guzzo of Eni S.p.A. on Aquila the world's first decommissioning project in deepwater. As deepwater fields mature there will be a growing need for decommissioning. When the FPSO Firenze had to be disconnected in 2006 and eventually scrapped due to corrosion, all risers and umbilicals were abandoned at 800m water depth. In winter 2008/09 Saipem U.K.'s Sonsub Division was tasked to recover these risers and umbilicals for decommissioning.
