Sonardyne Opens in Singapore
UK High Commissioner, Paul Madden officially opened the new premises of Sonardyne Asia in Singapore. The party also included Sonardyne's Group Managing Director, Barry Clutton and Strategic Business Development Director, Rob Balloch. Sonardyne designs and manufactures subsea acoustic systems and has had a regional office in Singapore for many years. Following the upsurge of offshore activity in the South-East Asian region there has been a dramatic increase in demand for Sonardyne products and services. This has made it necessary for the company to move to the new, custom-designed building in Loyang so it can maintain the level of client support. At more than 9,000 sq. ft., the newly constructed building in Loyang is more than three times the size of the previous office and has been fitted-out to the highest specification. New facilities include a specially manufactured acoustic test tank while a modern service and repair area enables the rapid turnaround of customers' equipment. A large store also incorporates a secure area for controlled products such as Sonardyne's advanced 'Lodestar' Attitude and Heading Reference System. The high demand for tuition in the use of Sonardyne's advanced products has also resulted in a well-appointed training room being incorporated within the new building where monthly courses will be held. the federal government's official list of the nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Cobb will join more than 80,000 places deemed significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. The register lists notable places as diverse as the Brooklyn Bridge and Paul Bunyan statue in Portland, Ore. The register is maintained by the Department of the Interior's National Park Service. "John N. Cobb leaves behind a rich legacy of fisheries research and maritime traditions that served NOAA and the country well for nearly 60 years," said Mary Glackin, deputy under secretary for oceans and atmosphere. "Being named to the National Register of Historic Places is an indication of the great maritime history behind the Cobb, the people who served on it, and its importance to America." expertise in heavy lift and transportation during the engineering, transportation and installation phases. First Subsea to moor FPSO STP Buoy
Advanced Production and Loading (APL) AS awarded First Subsea a contract to supply mooring connections for a disconnectable Submerged Turret Production (STP) Buoy in the Chinook Cascade field in the Gulf of Mexico. Moored in 2,500 m of water, the project will be the deepest application for a STP buoy supplied by APL so far. The STP buoy will be used by a FPSO vessel supplied and operated by BW Offshore, on behalf of Petrobas, due to come into operation in 2010. First Subsea is supplying 11 Series II ball and taper Ballgrab mooring connections with a minimum breaking load (MBL) of 6,600kN. The buoy will feature Ballgrab female uni-joint connectors on its underside. Once the STP buoy has been positioned in the field, all the male mooring line connections, linked by chain to the sea bed, are connected to the female connectors subsea by ROV avoiding the need for divers.
