"Nekton reminded me of the mattress I had in college, I was thick where it was thin"
Joe Dyer, President of iRobot's Government and Industrial Division, on the acquisition of Nekton, a UUV company.
Rick Vosburgh, Nekton's President and CEO, was appointed Executive Director, Maritime Systems and will lead business operations out of iRobot's newly established Maritime Programs office located in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. In particular, Dyer and iRobot are banking on the military's continued trend toward unmanned operations. "We
think the future for unmanned (in the military) is very bright, as there is a lower tolerance for casualties," Dyer said. "We're down to about 50 submarines now, and I think that there is a recognition among the modern navy that an unmanned adjunct is needed in the modern network centric warfare; and we are very interested in contributing."
