Deep Ocean Noted by NASA
Deep Ocean Engineering has been a pioneer in the development of innovative technology to support a wide variety of underwater applications. Now, Deep Ocean's contributions to space exploration have been acknowledged with the release of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) publication, Spinoff 2008. Each year NASA acknowledges the contributions of a select group of small businesses that have been recipients of research and development grants known as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR). Deep Ocean's contributions are among those acknowledged in the 2008-2009 program year and will be highlighted over the next 12 months on the NASA website and in a variety of other public forums. The Spinoff 2008 is expected to receive extra publicity in the coming year as it celebrates NASA's 50th Anniversary and will be a part of a broader program that will include an interactive DVD, posters and a summary brochure of companies that have participated in the program including Deep Ocean Engineering. Deep Ocean Engineering's participation in the NASA-SBIR program began in the early 1990's and was recently highlighted with the use of an ROV manufactured by DOE that was loaned by NASA to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute for use in Antarctica. The Spinoff article on Deep Ocean Engineering can be found online at the Spinoff website (www.sti.nasa.gov/tto). The video produced by NASA acknowledging Deep Ocean can be found on the DOE website: www.deepocean.com.
