15 Years Manufacturing Seismic Power Sources
Applied Acoustics, based in Gt.Yarmouth UK, has been manufacturing sub-bottom profiling systems for over 15 years. In the past year alone the company has launched three new Seismic Power Sources; the CSP-D and CSP-P with their special dual voltage output and the CSP-S, a compact 'all in one' 6000 Joule power source. Launched at Oceanology International in London in March, the CSP-S provides both requirements geophysicists have when examining the subsea sediment layers; high resolution, shallow penetration or low resolution, high penetration. It operates both with lower powered boomer plates, such as the AA300 boomer as well as the 6000J sparkers. Traditionally high penetration has been achieved with an airgun, but now the CSP-S can obtain both types of results without the need for a separate power supply, specialist operator, air compressor or cable.
of Software Defined Sonar (SDS) technology. A software defined sonar system is one in which attributes of the transceiver system, including tuning, modulation, and demodulation are controlled by means of programmable hardware, which is itself controlled by a software application. In essence, SDS creates a "sonar computer" that facilitates implementation of future-proof, multi-function, multi-frequency and multi-protocol sonar systems. New standards, frequencies or functions are added via reconfigurable software upgrades.
First Subsea Pioneers Metals Forging Research
for the integrity of shackles, triplates, cable sockets and H-links raised in January this year by the US Department of the Interior Minerals and Management Services (MMS), Gulf of Mexico OCS Region. The objective of the First Subsea two-year research project is to fully understand what happens during the forging process and, in so doing, better characterize the micro structure of forged metals, its relation to Charpy toughness values and the design and integrity of ball and taper connectors. Ultimately it is expected that the project will lead to the production of a First Subsea standard for characterizing the forged materials used in a ball and taper subsea connector that can be used by offshore engineers when specifying their mooring connection systems.

To meet growing concerns about the integrity of mooring systems among oil and gas operators, First Subsea is undertaking an investigation into mooring systems forging in collaboration with the University of Sheffield's world class Institute for Microstructural and Mechanical Process Engineering (IMMPETUS). The characterization of the metals used in subsea mooring is now a 'live' issue for offshore companies around the world. This follows concerns about the engineering integrity of forged metals and their implications
Hegg Marine Solutions, a newly established marine services business, announced its foray into the competitive industry of Oceanographic Project Management and Site Support. Hegg Marine Solutions primary business will include marine data acquisition, sonar system integration, project management, consultation, training and site support. HMS's mission is to support, maintain and manage client needs in their respective Marine Industry endeavors. "I'm really looking forward to continue working with and supporting the global requirements of ocean survey professionals and their adapting needs," said Fred Hegg, the founder and President of HMS.
