358.1. The New York City Home Educators Association team took second place with a score of 350.5 and they took the 1st Poster prize. Third place finishers were the former favored, Milton Academy with a respectable score of 341.5. Diman Regional Vocational Technical High received the Judges Choice award for excellence during their technical presentation. It was a great day in deed. No tears, just laughs, and pats on the back. Every single contestant felt that just being there, getting their vehicles wet and meeting all the judges was an accomplishment. "We see the level of competitiveness; innovation and quality of construction improve each year. The grasp, by all teams, of the physics required to design an underwater vehicle, and the execution of technical skills to make it operational, are most impressive. All teams, even those that may place lower in the competition, can be quite proud of their accomplishments. They have built a robot for a few hundred dollars that performs underwater missions comparable with commercial ROVs costing 100 times as much. We are sure that the New England winners will be among the finalists at the International competitions in San Diego", remarked head judge, Bob Lobecker of Technical and Marine Services.
