OceanTech Expo 2008
OTE'08: Enhanced Program in Providence
The Second-Annual OceanTech Expo (OTE '08) is quickly taking shape, scheduled for the Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence, Rhode Island, October 1-3, 2008. MTR, spoke with show director Rob Howard regarding plans to enhance and expand OTE for 2008. OceanTech Expo is entering year two; how will OTE '08 differ from last year? RH: The main changes for 2008 will be a totally interactive expo floor with the workshops and our exclusive Industry Outlook Sessions being held right inside the expo. How is OTE differentiated from a crowded field of conferences and exhibitions? RH: OceanTech Expo is the only tradeshow in North America with its sole focus -- from beginning to end -- on the technology that the exhibitors deliver to the end users of this industry. There are plenty of technical conferences, association meetings and user seminars, as you point out, but there hasn't been an annual tradeshow in North America that brings all the different technology together under one roof. That is, until OceanTech Expo. From an exhibitor standpoint, what is the attraction? RH: There are many. We present to our exhibitors and visitors -- through our exclusive Industry Outlook Sessions -- real feedback from some of the industry's biggest end users of this technology, from around the world. We offer exhibitors a chance to spotlight their products in workshops, giving them time to present their information without constraint. In addition, exhibitors are put in contact with attendees -- their current and potentially future customers -- from around the world. The first event in 2007 had more than 850 in attendance, and this year's pre-registration is on pace to exceed that. OceanTech Expo gives companies an internationally marketed and recognized event to showcase their marine and underwater technology, highlighting its use in science, defense, renewable energy and offshore oil & gas. Bottom line: OceanTech Expo is a marketdriven event designed to fill a void in North America.
OceanTech Expo `07 attracted corporate and government leaders -- in addition to more than 800 visitors -- in its first year. OTE `08 -- set for October 1-3, 2008 in Providence, promises to be even bigger and better. 20 MTR June 2008
