RESON Wins Van Oord Contract
No Tunnels Required
Rinspeed has built the world's first truly functional underwater car, according to a report in the February 29 edition of The Week. Dubbed sQuba, the new electricpowered auto can do 77 mph on land, 3 mph on the surface of water, and about 1.8 mph at a depth of 30 ft.

Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors b.v. purchased PDS2000Multibeam CUBE/3D area editor for all its PDS2000 licenses. The dredging and marine contractor Van Oord, which is a leader in the dredging industry, decided to upgrade its PDS2000 Singlebeam licenses to full PDS2000 Multibeam licenses. In addition it also purchased the new PDS2000 interactive 3D area editor which includes the CUBE option and 3D profile box. Van Oord uses Multibeam surveys to measure the progress of their dredging and marine activities, such as land reclamation, coastal and shore protection and the con-
struction and maintenance of ports and waterways. The company has recently completed the prestigious land reclamation project The World in the emirate of Dubai, which has been surveyed with RESON SeaBat 8125 systems. Data is collected with PDS2000 MB and processed on site. Van Oord decided to add the CUBE option for fast, reliable and interactive data processing of the large multibeam data sets.

A research consortium which includes a solar powered AUV from Falmouth Beacon Institute, IBM and Rensselaer Scientific. Polytechnic is planning to place hundreds of sensors throughout the Hudson River for an aquatic life and pollution level study, according to a report in the November/December edition of MIT's Technology Review. The large scale program demands a large scale data-analysis system, which IBM will provide.
