In surface mode, the Hyper-Sub is powered via diesel engine. In subsea mode, it is powered by batteries.
MTR Where did the idea from the design come from? RM I began designing it when I was 11, about 32 years ago. Some of the original ideas lead me to understanding the value of Hyper-Ballasting, and as time went by I was able to solve the other design issues that had always prevented such a craft from being viable, such as the power to weight issues and energy or fuel store issues. Over time I began to realize the true importance of these innovations (once combined in total) and began as well to realize the critically important need for such a craft that applied to many different markets or customers. MTR We understand that this vessel has been drawing the interest of the U.S. Navy. Is there a contract? RM We have not yet secured a military contract. There is, however, a very high level of interest in what we are doing on behalf of the military. They are watching our project closely and have begun to understand the implications of such a craft. The military requested that we be a

part of an Analysis of Alternative conducted by the Rand Corp. in Washington D.C. and we were one of a handful of companies interviewed under that program. MTR Tell us about the company. RM We formed an LLC, and through a grass root investment effort have raised more than $1.8m, not a lot by today's standards, but enough to fund the development of a proof-of-concept vessel. We plan to be producing Hyper-Subs within the next two years. Currently we are gearing up to capitalize on our proof of concept prototype. Since such an original and capable prototype craft was built successfully within such humble environment, we believe that will speak to the viability, and indeed the pending reality of highly engineered, ABS-certified craft that should enter into production within 24 months of the demonstrated proof of concept.
