Marathon Makes Deepwater Discovery
Marathon Oil Corp. announced a deepwater Gulf of Mexico discovery in Green Canyon block 244. The Droshky #1 is 137 mi (220 km) south-southwest of Venice, La., in 2,900 ft. (884 m) of water. Log data indicates some 250 ft. (76 m) of net oil pay. "The preliminary results suggest that the Droshky #1 is a commercial discovery with development likely through the Troika Unit infrastructure which is located approximately 2 miles from the Droshky well," said Philip G. Behrman, Marathon senior vice president of Worldwide Exploration. Operations have commenced to drill up to two sidetrack wells to be followed by engineering development studies.
Aker Kvaerner Wins Subsea Contract
Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a contract to supply 18 subsea christmas trees to Brazil's national oil company Petrobras, under the current frame agreement. The contract has a value of approximately $50m. The scope of work comprises 18 dual bore subsea christmas trees, designed to 2,000 m (6,500 ft.) water depth. The subsea christmas trees, or valve control stacks, will be deployed in several key fields located offshore Brazil. Deliveries are to be completed from Aker Kvaerner's subsea facility in Curitiba.
