K38-M Tier 2 Marine Engine
In response to customer requests for Tier 2 engines in the 800 - 1000 hp range, Cummins Inc. has upgraded the KTA38M0 to meet Tier 2 emissions levels. The new K38-M Tier 2 is designed for use in areas covered under U.S. EPA Tier 2 and EU Stage IIIA emissions regulations. The K38-M Tier 2 is suited for offshore supply, inland waterways transportation, tugs and towing. The 38 liter, V-12 engine shares most hardware with its predecessor; by using a footprint, mount, ratings and optional equipment similar to the existing product, vessel installation has been simplified. Emissions compliance is achieved by minor modifications in air handling and fueling, adjustments to timing and the addition of low temperature aftercooling. The engine also features the Cummins PT fuel system enhanced by CENTRY electronic governing. In addition to reduced emissions, the K38-M Tier 2 offers several other benefits. Improved air handling and fuel system optimization provide for similar fuel consumption and reduced smoke compared to the Tier 1 product. Plus, CENTRY electronic controls and protective shielding provide for safer, more responsive operation. The K38-M Tier 2 will be manufactured by Cummins Inc. on the same production line as the current KTA38-M0. The engine will initially be offered at 850 hp (634 kW) @ 1800 rpm for continuous duty marine applications. Dual Seaspension shock-absorbing pedestals feature internal progressivelyrated stainless steel springs that selfadjust to occupant weight and sea conditions. Independent testing shows that the pedestals reduce the impact felt by riders by over 50 percent and provide a steady ride as they absorb shock waves and pounding in rough seas. ROV Helps Clean Harbors
Clean Harbors is an environmental services provider and largest waste disposal company in North America. In addition to waste disposal, services include emergency response and industrial maintenance. As the company's business expanded the company invested in an underwater camera that would assist in response and maintenance operations. After researching, director of Marine Operations Scott Metzger selected JW Fishers SeaOtter ROV. The SeaOtter is a commercialgrade remote operated vehicle equipped with a powerful four motor propulsion system, a high resolution color camera, and four 100 watt lights. After purchasing the SeaOtter, Metzger traveled from Clean Harbors corporate headquarters for some basic training in ROV operation. Before performing their first open water inspection, Clean Harbors decided to take the ROV to the Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay and demonstrate the ROV's capabilities for a demonstration. Clean Harbors has lined up several projects to showcase the company's and the ROV's capabilities. They will be performing hull inspections on the battleship Massachusetts in Fall River and the Mayflower in Plymouth. Both vessels are major tourist attractions for the state. Members of the Mass State Police and other law enforcement officials will observe an inspection at the nuclear power plant in Plymouth. The company will demonstrate how ROVs can provide an added level of security for high risk targets of terrorist attacks. At the Mystic Power Station in Boston the ROV will swim into intake and discharge pipes to examine the condition of the internal walls and check screens that block debris from entering the plant, an operation extremely dangerous for divers to perform. Moisture eliminators installed on the craft eliminate damaging water and salt spray from entering the engine room. Dry air easily passes through the product's vertical channels but water droplets are trapped and drained away, preventing corrosion and engine wear. Intake axial fans were further modified by Delta T Systems with a turning vane and diverters to direct cool air where it's needed. It reduced the port engine's temperature by 59 degrees, creating greater fuel efficiency. Delta T Systems' P/T4 automatically senses and controls the temperature and pressure in the engine room by adjusting intake and exhaust fans according to conditions. It can be preset to maintain a specific temperature and pressure or can be manually operated for situations such as routine maintenance. The P/T4 is easy to operate with its color touch screen and built-in help screens. For more information email info@deltatsystems.com

Engine Ventilation System
To save millions of dollars in fuel and overhaul costs, the U.S. Coast Guard worked with Delta T Systems on a customized engine room ventilation system for its 87CPB patrol boats. The 87 x 15 ft., 90-gt, 87CPBs have critical missions: homeland security, drug interdiction and rescue operations. They're powered by twin MTU 1,500 hp engines, each with twin electronic turbochargers, and ZF marine gear. Two ships were built for the Malta government, two are under construction and 65 are in service along the U.S. coastline. Delta T Systems provided complete ventilation systems for the fleet, comprised of 24 in. intake and 19 in. exhaust axial fans, moisture eliminators and its P/T4 control system. Studies done by the Coast Guard determined that Delta T Systems' complete ventilation systems can save $5m in terms of fuel and engine overhaul expenses over the lifecycle of
