CAMEO Chem Site Debuts Interphase
Responding to hazardous material releases is a complex and dangerous business. For the last two decades, emergency responders have relied on NOAA's popular CAMEO software suite for response recommendations about the chemical hazards confronting them. Now responders can turn to CAMEO Chemicals --a free, easy-to-use website -- for quick access to CAMEO's popular chemical library and reactivity prediction tool. Emergency responders and planners can use CAMEO Chemicals to: Search An Extensive Chemical Database: Find chemicals of interest in the chemical database, which contains response recommendations for over 6,000 chemicals. The database also contains over 100,000 chemical synonyms and identification numbers, which aid emergency responders in identifying unknown substances during an incident. View Critical Response Information: Data sheets on each chemical provide physical properties, health hazards, information about air and water hazards, and recommendations for firefighting, first aid, and spill response. Predict Chemical Reactivity: This tool estimates what hazards could arise if chemicals were to mix. For more information visit http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov

Ohmsett to Host Oil Spill Training Course
Ohmsett, The National Oil Spill Response Test Facility, will host a one-week Oil Spill Training Course May 14-18, 2007. Designed with oil spill response management personnel in mind, students will gain enhanced decision-making skills through classroom instruction and hands-on oil recovery operations training in the test basin where they will deploy and operate different types of booms and skimmers (stationary and advancing) to contain and recover REAL oil. Instruction will be provided by Texas A&M University Corpus Christi National Spill Control School. For more information visit jdelgado@marinc.com
Dometic Environmental unveiled a networked control system for its Marine Air brand air conditioning systems for larger yachts. The Elite networked control system, based on CAN bus architecture, permits up to 100 Marine Air Elite cabin controls to be tied together in a local area network. CAN bus technology is widely accepted as the standard networking protocol for the automotive industry, marine engine control. The CAN bus platform provides a high-speed, robust and interference-resistant data network, with easy three-wire connections capable of long cable lengths with no special connectors. It can easily be bridged to other interfaces such as an RS232 serial port which can then be connected to the vessel's monitoring and control systems. The first networked Elite installation has just been completed as part of a major overhaul of the 160-foot Delta megayacht Newvida (formerly Gallant Lady), linking 24 different cabin controls into an integrated network, interfaced with Crestron touchscreen control and display panels throughout the yacht.
